Split Rim Alloy Wheels – Step-by-Step Process
-
1. Initial Inspection & Tyre Removal
The wheel is inspected for cracks or damage. Tyres, valves, and bolts are removed to separate the wheel components.
-
2. Splitting the Rim
A split rim wheel is made of two or three separate pieces. These parts are carefully unbolted and separated to allow for individual refurbishment.
-
3. Stripping & Cleaning
Each section is chemically stripped of old paint, lacquer, and dirt. All parts are then thoroughly cleaned and prepped.
-
4. Damage Repair
Any kerb rash, dents, or imperfections are repaired. This may include welding or straightening if required.
-
5. Finishing
- Lip Polishing or Diamond Cutting: The outer lip is often polished or diamond cut to a mirror shine.
- Centre Painting or Powder Coating: The centre can be painted or powder coated in your chosen colour.
- Barrel Coating: The inner barrel is coated for protection and a clean finish. -
6. Reassembly
The pieces are carefully reassembled and bolted back together using the correct torque and sealant if needed.
-
7. Final Lacquer & Curing
A clear lacquer is applied to protect the finish, and the wheel is cured in an oven for durability.
-
8. Quality Check & Tyre Refitting
The wheel is inspected, tyres are refitted, and it’s ready to go back on your vehicle – fully restored.
