4-Wheel Alignment – Step-by-Step Process
-
1. Initial Check & Inspection
The technician inspects tyres, suspension, and steering components for wear or damage that may affect alignment.
-
2. Vehicle Positioning on Alignment Ramp
The vehicle is placed on a specialist ramp. Sensors or laser heads are attached to all four wheels to begin measuring alignment angles.
-
3. Computerised Measurement
The alignment system checks key angles – toe, camber, caster, and thrust – and compares them with manufacturer specifications.
-
4. Adjustment of Front & Rear Wheels
Any incorrect angles are adjusted by realigning the suspension and steering components to ensure all four wheels are set correctly.
• Toe: Direction the tyres point in/out
• Camber: Tilt of the wheels
• Caster: Angle of the steering axis
• Thrust: Direction the rear wheels point -
5. Steering Wheel Reset
The steering wheel is adjusted and centred, ensuring it’s straight when driving.
-
6. Final Report
A before-and-after alignment report is provided, showing the exact adjustments made.
-
7. Test Drive (Optional)
A short drive may be done to ensure everything feels correct on the road.
